Account Updater
Keep vaulted cards current automatically to reduce declines
Account Updater keeps your vaulted cards current. It refreshes stored card details when a card expires, is reissued, or is replaced, so recurring and repeat payments keep working without asking the customer for a new card. Fewer avoidable declines means less churn and less manual work chasing updated card data.
Account Updater must be enabled and configured on your merchant account. Contact your Account Management team to get started.
Benefits
- Fewer declines: repeat and recurring charges keep working on refreshed credentials.
- Less manual work: no chasing customers for new card details.
- Better security: less handling of sensitive card data by staff.
- Higher retention: frictionless payments keep customers subscribed.
How it works
- Submission: your vaulted customer card accounts are submitted to the supported card brands.
- Network check: the brands identify changes such as expired cards, reissued or upgraded cards, and account number changes.
- Sync: updated details (card number, expiry date, and status) are applied to the customer's vaulted card automatically.
- Visibility: each update is recorded so you can see what changed on a customer's stored card.
Used in these scenarios
Account Updater works behind the stored-card flows:
- Charge a saved card: refreshed credentials keep repeat charges working.
